The Rock Band Program is a unique program offered in the Mountain Vista and ThunderRidge feeder area. It is designed to provide instruction on guitar, bass, keyboard and drums within the context of a rock band setting.
We have a beginning class and an intermediate class. During the first semester a beginning rock band class is offered. This class is designed for students with little or no experience on their instrument. Guitar, bass, keyboard and drum students learn to play simple rock pieces that help them develop proper playing and listening skills. The 3 month class concludes with a sharing “concert” for parents, family and friends. This concert is dependent on state and district restrictions. For musicians who have rudimentary skills on their instrument, there is an intermediate class that meets on Thursday afternoons. Guitar, bass and keyboard players are grouped with other students, including drummers, to continue developing their skills. This program is a performance based learning environment. Through rehearsals and performance, the students continue to develop skills on their instrument and learn to play together in a band. This session concludes with a concert in the community. The classes this semester will be held exclusively on line until permission is given to meet in person.
Who should sign up for the beginning Rock Class?
Any 4th, 5th or 6th grade student who is interested in learning to play the electric guitar, electric bass, keyboard or drum set.
Who should sign up for the intermediate Rock Band Class?
Any 4th, 5th or 6th grade student who has at least rudimentary experience playing their instrument. Guitar, bass and keyboard players should be able to play simple chords and be able to switch between them. Drummers should be able to keep a steady “groove” and be able to play a few drum fills.
