The Rock Band Program is a unique program offered in the Mountain Vista and ThunderRidge feeder area.  It is designed to provide instruction on guitar, bass, keyboard and drums within the context of a rock band setting.

We have a beginning/intermediate class and a Select group.  The Beginning/Intermediate rock band class is designed for students with little or no experience on their instrument.  Guitar, bass, keyboard and drum students learn to play simple rock pieces that help them develop proper playing and listening skills.    For musicians who have more advanced skills on their instrument, there is an auditioned group called the "Select Rock Band" that meets on Thursday afternoons.  Students who play guitar, bass, keyboard and drums are grouped with other students to continue developing their skills.  This program is a performance based learning environment.  Through rehearsals and performance, the students continue to develop skills on their instrument and learn to play together in a band.  This session concludes with a concert in the community.

Who should sign up for the beginning/Intermediate Rock Class?

Any 4th, 5th or 6th grade student who is interested in learning to play the electric guitar, electric bass, keyboard or drum set.  Any student who has taken the Beginning class but is not ready for the Select group.

Who should sign up for the Select Rock Band Class?

4th, 5th or 6th grade students who have participated in the Beginning/Intermediate group or who have intermediate skills playing their instrument.  Guitar, bass and keyboard players should be able to play simple chords and be able to switch between them.  Drummers should be able to keep a steady “groove” and be able to play a few drum fills.  An audition is required to participate in the Select group.  Still unsure?  Click here for more help.

All students must have an instrument to practice on at home.  Guitar and bass players should bring their own instrument and amplifier to class.  Drummers and keyboard players need an instrument at home to practice on, but may use the instruments provided at the school for class.
