The Guitar Class and Rock Band Program is a unique opportunity offered to students in the Mountain Vista and ThunderRidge feeder area.
Two different classes make up this program. The first is a guitar class and the second is a complete rock band. See details below.
Guitar Class
This class is for beginner and intermediate guitar students. While we will play many songs and do performances, the focus of this class is on getting better at the guitar. Students will also have the opportunity to play the electric bass in class. The goal of this class is to build proficiency on the guitar. The class will meet at Sand Creek Elementary School on Monday afternoons from 5:15-6:45. Students may play acoustic or electric guitars.
Select Rock Band
This class is for guitar, bass, drum and keyboard players. The focus of this class is on building a repertory of songs to perform. The class is designed for intermediate to advanced players who can learn songs quickly. Students will be expected to practice the songs at home and come prepared to play together. The goal of this class is to play a lot of songs and prepare for middle school and high school music experiences. An audition video is required to be selected for this class.

Students interested in participating in the Select Rock Band must submit an audition video. Please video yourself playing Dr. Rock with the audio recording found on this website. Who should sign up for the Select Rock Band Class?
4th, 5th or 6th grade students who have intermediate skills playing their instrument. Guitar, bass and keyboard players should be able to play major and minor chords and be able to switch between them. Drummers should be able to keep a steady “groove” and be able to play a few drum fills. An audition video is required to participate in the Select group. Still unsure? Click here for more help.
What does my child need for the class?
All students must have an instrument to practice on at home. Guitar and bass players should bring their own instrument to class. Drummers and keyboard players need an instrument at home to practice on, but may use the instruments provided at the school for class.
How long does the class last?
The program runs all school year.
When and where are the classes held?
The guitar class meets on Monday afternoons at 5:15 and ends at 6:45.
The Select Rock Band class meets on Thursday afternoons at 4:00 and ends at 5:30.
Classes are held at Sand Creek Elementary School. 8898 S. Maplewood Drive, Highlands Ranch.
Classes follow the school schedule and do not meet during fall or spring break.
